Wild about Wakulla Week is a celebration of Wakulla County, the “Natural Place to Be”.  The week held in the early spring highlights the heritage and natural beauty of Wakulla County. The 2013 Wild About Wakulla Week, April 12-21 begins with a Friday evening event followed with the kick-off Saturday morning of the Sopchoppy Worm Gruntin' Festival which takes place in the streets of historic Downtown Sopchoppy on April 13. Varied events and tours take place throughout the week including a special Viva Florida 500 tour "Conquistadors in the Fabled Land of the Apalache" in St. Marks on April 18 & 19. The Wakulla Wildlife Festival will be held at Wakulla Springs State Park, April 20, 2013.


Palmetto Expeditions along with other organizations throughout the county, both public and private, will host special tours and feature our various communities during the extended week long celebration. FRIDAY, APRIL 12, 2013. 3:00PM 'ENDLESS LIVING TREASURES' - GULF SPECIMEN MARINE LAB AQUARIUM TOUR
Most of us have never seen what lives in a sea grass meadow or on a limestone outcrop - tiny green shrimp and scarlet sponges, the crystal and glittering comb jellyfish.  Come explore with Cypress Rudloe, the sea water tanks and aquariums at the Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory.  Cypress will tell you about many of our lesser known sea creatures and show you the touch tanks where you can actually pick up and handle live sea anemones, urchins, starfish, sea pansies, sand dollars and clams.  A delightful, educational tour that shouldn't be missed.

SATURDAY, APRIL 13, 2013 10:00 AM  NATURAL BRIDGE CONFEDERATE BATTLEFIELD
Located 13 miles south of Tallahassee, the historic site provides the only natural crossing of the St. Marks River for most of the river's length. The Battle of Natural Bridge was fought on March 6, 1865 and prevented Union Forces from capturing Tallahassee, the only southern capital east of the Mississippi River never taken during the war.  Join Phil Gerrell for a journey back in time on a walking tour as you listen to the narrative history of this famous battle.  Meet in parking lot of the park off the Woodville Hwy.
